RUCU'S WORK WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In the year 2005-6 there were 2776 international students studying at Reading Uni. Many students arrive here without a good idea of what to expect from studying in a British university, and some students have never had a chance to hear the good news about Jesus. We would like to invite you to help them by becoming their friend while they stay in England, whether this is for a long time or a short time.
How can you do this?
Say hi to those international students staying in your hall, and go and visit them.
With the support of your cell group and permission of the hall staff (where needed), organise an event in your hall. You could invite those you know to a meal, or run something bigger like a tour of campus/town, or do a sports or free food event.
Support and pray for the six big events that RUCU will be running in HumSS 25 this term. Come along to these events and you can meet students from other cultures easily and begin a great friendship!
We actually need students committed to helping to set up and organise these six events, as well as some students who are committed to coming along for a few of these events to help to welcome and talk with people. If you can help with this, please email Bethan on smallworldcafe@reading.ac.uk
Send me your ideas! If you see a need, how can we fill it? What else can RUCU be doing for international students?
Astonishingly, 80% of students who come from abroad leave the UK without having made a British friend. That is a challenge to us if we are really to love our neighbours and tell them the good news that Jesus has commanded us to spread! (see Luke 24 verses 46-8 - how exciting is that!)
If you want to get in touch with me about any of the above, email Bethan (current International Secretary) on smallworldcafe@reading.ac.uk.
