The committee is elected every year by the CU members and each member of the Committee is given a different set of responsibilities and areas of the CU to support and coordinate; it’s their role to encourage and mobilise us to live and speak for Jesus!
Chairman ![]() |
Tiro | |
Degree: MeteorologyMy role as chairman involves working together with the chairwoman to oversee the running of the union, to help everyone understand what the Christian Union is all about, who we are and what we believe. I believe there is always something new to learn everyday and I like exploring new things. I like listening to music and exploring nature. |

Chairwoman ![]() |
Jo | |
Degree: PharmacyHi! As Chairwoman I help support the CU and keep us focussed on our aim of reaching students with the good news about Jesus. My role includes things like planning and leading main meetings and serving the CU in the general day-to-day runnings. In other news, I study Pharmacy and am partial to a bar of galaxy chocolate (hint hint). I also enjoy playing – but more often watching – sport. |

Josh Luke | |
Degree: EnglishHey I'm Joshua Luke, International Secretary. I'm involved in helping everyone in the CU; however I can, to befriend and witness to international students however they can! |

Treasurer ![]() |
Tom Wilson | |
Degree: GeographyHi there. As treasurer my role is to manage and take care of all things money related in the CU such as managing the accounts, setting budgets and dealing with donations. I aim to make sure that the money given to us is used in the best way that honours God. I’m currently studying for a BSc in Geography, it’s much more than colouring in! In my free time I like playing and watching sport (especially Cricket and Rugby Union) as well as trying to teach myself guitar. |

Prayer Secretary ![]() |
Rachel Whitewood | |
Degree: Primary Education and English LitAs the prayer secretary my role is to encourage and enable prayer within the CU. Basically, I get to be really excited about praying and infect you all with my enthusiasm... When I'm not doing that, or teaching kiddywinks how to read and write and stuff, I also love baking delectable delicious cakes, reading, laughing, dragon-slaying, fire-eating, shark-taming, winning Nobel Prizes, riding my red shiny bicycle and singing. And praying. So do e-mail me any prayer requests, I'd love to hear from you. |

Small Groups Co-ordinator ![]() |
Adam Innis | |
Degree: ChemistryHi. My name is Adam and I’m the Small group coordinator. If you don’t know what a small group is then don’t worry, I didn’t at first! We have small groups which meet in every hall (some are joined together) every week. The aim of the small groups is to facilitate evangelism in halls. We put on regular events in the halls which have ranged in the past from film nights to text a pancake, but it’s all down to the inventiveness of the individual group! Other weeks we meet to study the bible and pray together. My role as Small group coordinator is to prepare the small group leaders by helping them with the passages, advising them on events and encouraging them to pray! In my spare time I enjoy pretty much anything musical including playing lots of instruments...the most obscure of which is the church organ! I’m also a great fan of procrastinating by playing fifa! |

Communications Secretary ![]() |
Katy Leake | |
Degree: PhilosophyHi, I’m Katy and I’m the Communications Secretary. My job involves doing lots of the behind the scenes things in CU like booking speakers and taking minutes. It also means it’s my job to keep the committee organised and make sure everyone knows what’s happening, so it’s likely to be me sending you emails and Facebook messages. I love all things pretty, cooking for friends and family and baking, especially if chocolate and glitter are involved! |
||
Follow Up ![]() |
Alex Hepburn | |
Degree: AgricultureHey! Basically my role in the CU is to provide people who have express interest in what the CU does, believes and the claims of Christ with people to talk to, and further information. We are also planning on running a small group for those who have recently become Christians and others who are interested in learning more. Outside of this I play sports like cricket and tennis and the piano, although less than I’d like! At home I also (try!) to spend fair bit of time working on farms in Dorset. |

Events Co-ordinator ![]() |
George Tweedie-Smith | |
Degree: Something to do with the environment.Hello I am George Tweedie-Smith. I am events coordinator at Reading University Christian Union. This involves coordinating evangelism events and encouraging the whole cu to do both personal evangelism with their friends as well as events evangelism (where an event is put on to enable the topic of the gospel to be discussed more easily like lunchbar, or a quiz night). I am sort of an evangelism coordinator except you don’t have to be on my team to do evangelism. Also my role includes helping facilitate everyone with the ideas they have for events, as well as explaining and organising events to encourage the whole cu to evangelise and why we tell people about Jesus. |
